Environmental Robotics Institute

Abstract

Sensors capable of recording health information, and biometric data have existed for many years. Sensors to monitor biological systems, and health and fitness data for segments of the population and individuals can be deployed. These systems will improve quality of life while also meeting the precision management needs of industry.

Depending on the mission requirements drones can be designed as conventional fixed wing aircraft or as vertical takeoff and landing single and multirotor helicopters. Applications of interest to industry in the near term include public safety surveillance, use in the film industry, and monitoring of environmental conditions including vegetation, environmental quality concerns, pollution, coastal erosion, and emissions along with agricultural applications. Additionally In densely populated or heavily forested areas VTOL capable multirotors can provide excellent remote sensing and mapping capabilities to augment first responders or environmental quality investigators. Lightweight robotic aircraft have a safety and cost advantage over conventional manned aircraft, and can enhance public safety, environmental remote sensing, and mapping.

The Environmental Robotics Institute and its business ventures will assemble bio-sensor technology in unique and novel ways to improve the environment and improve the lives of people in diverse communities while also educating students and interested individuals in the use innovative unmanned systems, and biometric sensors. Applied to agriculture these systems can help farmers reduce chemical use thus saving millions of industry dollars while also improving the environment.

Networked Biometric Sensors can create a distributed bio- sensor network which will provide real time data to people. Unprecedented gains in physical response and health care can be achieved through the use of this technology. Fitness data can help patients in a myriad of ways.

With in school outreach programs students can be encouraged to learn and get involved with environmental robotics. Students will develop a sense of proactive environmental responsibility and an understanding of responsible uses for advanced sensor and automation technologies.

What problem does this idea/product solve or what market need does it serve?

Environmental Robotics involves the use of robotics and automated technologies involving integrated remote sensing systems and various sensors to monitor the environment and improve lives by providing and cataloging real time environmental and biometric data.

What attributes will make this idea/product successful? Why do you believe that those features will create success?

Unlike other products on the market which provide cursory biofeedback, the biometrics system proposed and prototyped uses proprietary algorithms, data logging, and expanded media accessibility to log and track physiological responses and biological forces on the human body in comprehensive and quantifiable ways unmatched by current products. When looked at individually many products provide some comparable sensor outputs, but none combine features, functions, and accessibility in a unique and novel way like my proposed biometric sensors. As a Louisiana based company ERI is centrally located with and its sales and distribution system will benefit from its location. By being involved in educational outreach at both K-12 and College levels, ERI will establish itself as an expert in the fields of environmental robotics, automation, and related control systems. As the generations of students exposed to ERI’s educational outreach programs grow up they will see ERI’s brand as a leader in the industry. As these students use ERI’s products their inner circle will also be exposed and realize the benefits of ERI’s innovative products and services. While forming an additional revenue stream ERI’s educational outreach will also be a significant part of its marketing and will help make its products available to potential consumers.

Explain how you (your team) will execute to make this idea/product successful? What gives you (your team) an advantage over others already in the market or new to this market?

A prototype networked bio-metric sensor has been created. Future iterations will be able to log as well as transmit bio-metric data. We currently have operational drone systems and have started preliminary sales. Our intellectual property positions engineering expertise and unique innovations give us a competitive advantage.
