Additional Questions

Who is your customer?

The adventurous traveler who is looking for the off-the-beaten-path locations in New York City and other cities in the future. This could be a homeschooling mom looking for a history lesson, a tourist who doesn't want to only visit the usual tourist spots, and the local who has always wondered who built that public space near her apartment or why.

What problem does this idea/product solve or what market need does it serve?

It lets people know about these privately owned public spaces scattered throughout New York City (for now), and other cities in the future. People pass them, but have no idea what the history is of the park, the sculptures or other art pieces in the park, and to whom it is dedicated. Did you know there is even a statue in Manhattan that is actually an old tomb?

What attributes will make this idea/product successful? Why do you believe that those features will create success?

I received feedback from people who stumble upon my book before a trip to New York City and they are fascinated that these parks even have a name and a history. After London finished their pocket park program, I knew I had to go there and create a book of their parks as well. They found my project while they were gearing up for theirs and since then, I've received traffic from Europe, even outside of London. A series of guides to pocket parks in the U.S. and around the world is the next Fodor's or Not For Tourists Guides.

Explain how you (your team) will execute to make this idea/product successful? What gives you (your team) an advantage over others already in the market or new to this market?

I will hire veterans and military spouses who cannot work a typical 9-5 job. They will help me with the writing and photographing of the parks if they live or can travel to one nearby. My advantage is that no one has ever studied these parks or compiled information about them aside from a dry text book which helped me with some information, but is not something a tourist or local would want to lug around while searching for parks. The people who I've taken for tours of these parks have loved the idea and are fans of the book.
