Abstract

AtmoSpark is an atmospheric water generation company that provides freshwater to those with limited access to it.

Additional Questions

Who is your customer?

Our first market segment will target sailboat owners from the Gulf states (TX, FL, AL, LA) whose boats are 35 ft and longer with a target market size of 51,000 sailboats.

What problem does this idea/product solve or what market need does it serve?

Current cruising sailboats get their drinking water by bottled water or using desalination units for their journeys. The use of bottled water requires travellers to excessively plan and keep track of their water use throughout their journeys. Desalination units are mechanically intensive units which require constant maintenance work and need to be installed on the boat. Desalination units can only work in locations where the water is clear limiting its use throughout a sailor's journey. The water from desalinators is unsatisfying to live off of for longer journeys.

What attributes will make this idea/product successful? Why do you believe that those features will create success?

AtmoSpark’s patent pending technology is a scalable solution that extracts pure water out of the air producing a higher quality of water than other alternatives. Current water makers use reverse osmosis which requires higher energy to drive high pressure pumps. Water makers have many moving parts which require constant maintenance and required to be installed in a stationary place on the boat. AtmoSpark’s Element is portable removing the need to install in a specific place and need for constant maintenance. Compared to conventional RO, our technology requires 20% less energy and 1⁄3 compared to conventional condensation. We are currently the first atmospheric water generation company to target the sailboat market.

Explain how you (your team) will execute to make this idea/product successful? What gives you (your team) an advantage over others already in the market or new to this market?

AtmoSpark’s diverse team of four is well positioned for its current phase. Matthew is an MBA grad with marketing skills who will validate the sales channel and market need. Aniket and Damilola are Phd and graduate chemical engineers who will optimize the product and bring it to a manufacturable stage by the summer of 2018. Tejus is also a graduate chemical engineer with business development experience who will lead the team to reach AtmoSpark’s milestones. We have been able to develop our third prototype which produces 1 gal/day and our next step is to scale to patent-pending the 100 gal/day prototype and create an industrial design for a manufacturable product. We will also field test on sailboats and perform life cycle testing to optimize the rigidity of the design.
