Who is your customer?

Backyard Chicken owners are our primary customer. A most recent survey indicated that 1.5% of US households currently raise backyard flocks (1.84 M). Based on the current trend, by 2020 it is anticipated that 5.25% of US households will raise backyard poultry (7.12M).

What problem does this idea/product solve or what market need does it serve?

The Chicken Fountain™ will keep a backyard chicken flock of chickens, peacocks, guinea hens, turkeys, ducks, quail and more healthier by providing, clean, fresh water every time! Our system also is instrumental in helping to stop the spread of disease such as coccidia. Additionally it breaks the cycle of mosquito reproduction which breed in open water sources such as traditional chicken waterer. Our Brooder Bottle Cap™ start chicks off on the right foot by providing fresh clean water that is maintenance free. Sick chicks can spread disease quickly by contaminating open water sources but not when our Brooder Bottle Cap™ are used. Our Brooder Bottle Cap™ also eliminate the chance of drowning which often happens in smaller breeds. Our CoopTight helps to maintain natural heat for your birds and reduces drafts from an open door. CoopTight eliminates wild birds from gaining access to your coop, roosting inside which can spread disease like avian influenza.

What attributes will make this idea/product successful? Why do you believe that those features will create success?

There are many types of Automated Poultry Watering systems in use in the factory farm industry. We have just taken that concept and scaled it to meet the needs of the backyard flock owner and small farm operations. Thus, Chicken Fountain owners will not have to make a habit of daily cleaning of dirty chicken waterers, this semi-sealed system keeps every drop of water fresh and clean!

Explain how you (your team) will execute to make this idea/product successful? What gives you (your team) an advantage over others already in the market or new to this market?

The Chicken Fountain wants to be THE name in automated poultry watering systems for the backyard chicken customer! The Chicken Fountain has been in operation since 2011. In the first full year of operation, we achieved $110K by hand making every fountain in a barn and selling over the Internet. Over the past 3 years we have increased revenues, added products that cater to backyard chicken owners and are now in a mode to grow and expand our Chicken Fountain business beyond the Internet and into specialty retail to serve a growing customer segment in the United States. Our current advantage is that through years of expertise, trial and error, we have created a product that solves many common problems associated with raising and keeping chickens hydrated. However, we compete with the DIYer who are satisfied with current watering offerings or feel compelled to create their own home made watering system. Our reason for entering the Veteran’s Business Battle is to be exposed to opportunities and networks that can help us automate production and lower the cost of our product to get to a retail price point with all our current features and benefits where no one would consider making their own system.
