Pure Skate Co.

Abstract

Pure Skate Co. is a mission that goes beyond just skateboarding itself. My mission is to bring light, service and kindness into a community that is dark, underserved and often unkind. I have grown up in the skateboarding community and have so much love for this group of people. Most of my best friends belong to this community, I've had so many laughs and good times with these people.

However, I have always been intimidated and disapointed by the constant flow of drugs, alcohol, violence and bad attitude that my community has adopted. By existing in the skating community as a company that doesn't become inebriated at every impulse, and that serves the community through events, products and friendship I strive to show my fellow skaters that there's another way to live.

Currently I produce both skateboards and apparel. I design everything myself, which has been a very enjoyable outlet for creativity. I do all of the marketing as well, primarily through social media and events. I've pushed myself to the limits of my mental capacity and patience by doing all of my own bookkeeping. Sales have been a huge blast, I have my boards in shops all over Colorado and skaters in states across the nation on my boards.

Additional Questions

Who is your customer?

My customer is the adventurous spirit. I strive to appeal to those who love to laugh, escape the mundane, and enjoy the wildness of life. My boards have been sold primarily to hardcore skaters, although I have sold to many people just looking for some fun.

What problem does this idea/product solve or what market need does it serve?

The demands a skater puts on his board are very high. The average skater beats his board to a pulp within a month or so and needs a replacement immediately. With over 5,000 hardcore skaters in Colorado, plus a huge number of people who are just looking for a transportation method or a fun side hobby, there is a huge demand for boards in the state.

What attributes will make this idea/product successful? Why do you believe that those features will create success?

The difference between Pure and any other skate company out there is me! I bring my own style, humor and kindness to the skate community which is something that not many skate companies do. The fact that I am frequently interacting with my customer base makes buying my product attractive to many. I love hanging out and skating with those I am selling to.

Explain how you (your team) will execute to make this idea/product successful? What gives you (your team) an advantage over others already in the market or new to this market?

Like I said earlier, the fact that we are a local company is a huge advantage in Colorado. Since we are in the area all the time, it gives us the ability to interact with our customer directly. It's been so much fun to be able to do, and it has helped sell boards. I also spend a huge amount of time designing the perfect graphics and boards so that our friends are never dissatisfied with their boards.
