At the current rate, only 3% of the people have access to the infrastructure to be able to charge an electric car. What if we can make an electric car that already works anywhere and is powered by renewable energy?

The Lightyear One is the electric car that charges itself with sunlight and can be driven for months without additional charging. This a real game changer for zero emission mobility: it enables people to drive electric anywhere in the world, effortlessly. Weight-saving features are combined with a solar roof in order to greatly improve the range of the car, depending on your chosen configuration it can drive 400 or 800 km's purely on it's battery. Next to that, all the additional solar yield amounts up to around 22.000 km's yearly in India, around 10.000 km's in Amsterdam and 18.000 in Silicon Valley. All these km's are a result from the solar energy that falls on your roof everyday and will be directly stored in the battery; totally for free.

Lightyear is a spin-off of from the Solar Team Eindhoven that built two award-winning family solar car prototypes. Both these cars are energy positive meaning they produce more energy than they use. Based on the knowledge from the past 5 years and together with leading industry partners, Lightyear is now bringing the solar car to the market.

Their 5 year experience on this subject is great competitive advantage as well as our basis in the Eindhoven region; we have access to a lot of great talent and Automotive companies. From the Solar Team we've already built meaningful relations and experience with a lot of partner companies that will help us to succeed.
