Soils are essential to multiple life support systems frequently taken for granted, such as water cycle, carbon cycle, and nitrogen cycle, in addition to being the foundation of our food systems. Increasingly, farmers, scientists, landowners, environmental experts, and policymakers understand soil health is a keystone issue and that addressing its complex challenges is urgently essential. While the health of soil is influenced by some inherent factors such as formation, geography, and climate, other factors are more dynamic and influenced by how the soil is managed.
With the increase in technology, many companies are developing hardware and ‘systems’ for farmers. Farmers are overwhelmed with the amount of data generated by the vast array of equipment on the farm. Growers need to know what is going on below the surface. They need to know the moisture level and health of their soil more now than ever. foris.io will provide consistent and constant reliable aggregated data presented in a functional and usable manner for growers to help manage their crops irrigation, fertilization needs and healthy soil while increasing healthy yields.
foris.io will use machine learning, artificial intelligence, and cognitive learning to analyze weather, academic research, various models, crop data, and soil data. Efficient and judicious use will become critical. The foris.io system will enable landowners to manage their outdoor water, energy, and fertilizer usage to “just enough • just in time” control.
What problem does this idea/product solve or what market need does it serve?
foris.io™ will assist growers in managing soil health by using a proprietary system of sensor apparatus data, machine learning, cognitive computing, and data analytics to aggregate the data from above ground, in-ground, weather, crop specifics, and farm yield statistics to enable responsible and intelligent resource use decisions. foris.io will allow "just enough • just in time"™ irrigation and fertilization, saving water and energy all while increasing crop yield.
What attributes will make this idea/product successful? Why do you believe that those features will create success?
foris.io is a proprietary individualized management system using data pertinent to calculating soil health for smart irrigation, fertilization, and better crop yield. We will be using the available sensors, meters, and other data generating sources used on farms capable of sensing soil moisture, salinity, weather, pH, nitrogen, and carbon, among other data, relevant to the crop and soil health. We will incorporate weather, atmospheric data, crop information, historical data, and academic modeling. With the help of machine learning, artificial intelligence and the cognitive computing of IBM's Watson, we will 'learn' to use all of this data to develop a 'thinking decision model' by crop type. The foris.io system will help growers manage 'just enough • just in time' use of their resources enabling irrigation and energy efficiency and the capability of making soil health decisions with better accuracy.

Our management/advisor team has senior and developmental experience in distribution channels, computer science, soil moisture & health, engineering, marketing, sales and customer acquisition. We are partnering with IBM and integrating their BlueMix and Watson systems to facilitate our programming and execution. We are all passionate, seasoned and determined. We have the vision.
