Restaurant Roulette

Abstract

Have you ever been out with your friends and wondered "Where should we eat for dinner?" You ask around, and everyone says "I don't know" or "no preference." Restaurant Roulette is the solution to this problem. It uses the Yelp API to randomly pick a restaurant with either no criteria, or your choice of distance, price range, and type of food. With a clean interface and easy to use functionality, you'll never struggle to figure out where to eat ever again. Currently in development as an iOS app, but could easily be adapted to Android or web app forms.

Who is your customer?

Our customer is anyone who loves food. If you want to discover new restaurants near you, Restaurant Roulette will help you do that. The next time

What problem does this idea/product solve or what market need does it serve?

The restaurant industry is incredibly bloated right now, especially in big cities where a simple search for "food near me" will return hundreds of results. Restaurant Roulette helps solve this problem by offering a small set of easy to use constraints that narrow down this search to one randomized result. If you don't like it, simply swipe down and try again.

What attributes will make this idea/product successful? Why do you believe that those features will create success?

The biggest draw that we will have to the consumer is simplicity and ease of use. It allows users to connect Groupon, Uber, Lyft, and other delivery services to simplify food and restaurant decisions. Furthermore, you can even see reviews for the restaurant at the tip of your finger in seconds.

Explain how you (your team) will execute to make this idea/product successful? What gives you (your team) an advantage over others already in the market or new to this market?

An emphasis on simplicity and clean UI design will allow us to reach out to users and help them solve the most common problem of all: "Where do you want to eat tonight?" Using basic criteria and search options, Restaurant Roulette will solve this problem with the tap of a button. Using Swift 4 and the Yelp Fusion API (as their v2 API is currently being phased out) means that we will have a leg up on other food finding applications.
