Sports Equipt


Sports Equipt (sportsequipt.com) is a web platform that streamlines the rental process for consumers by establishing a comparability search engine that filters price, locality, availability, and ratings, while providing an online payment method, of all US sports rental shops to choose from. We not just want to take out the hassle of searching through dozens of rental websites with missing information or payment methods and eliminate phone calls to acquire information. We want to produce a rental process that filters results tailored to your needs, while providing consumer-to-shop feedback communication to enhance the consumer’s journey every step of the way. Control is placed back into the hands of our consumers, while providing US rental shops the opportunity to be globally discovered and branded.

Sports Equipt operates as an inventory-free equipment agency and conducts itself as a local server to easily compare and filter all sports shops’ available equipment to rent.

Who is your customer?

We have two consumers: 1) rental customers and 2) rental shop owners: 1) Our rental consumers are millennial travelers of the age group 18-24, who identify themselves as explorers, athletes, adventurers, sports enthusiasts, and outdoorsmen of their local region and beyond. They're consumers of the demand era that favor renting over owning, and greatly appreciate traveling to experience and immerse themselves in a destination's culture. They are influenced by their peers, and social media platforms that display the 21st-century travel brochure.They turn to these platforms for socialization and the visually-focused images that emulate unmatchable experiences. 2) We focus on enlarging rental shop's customer base by eliminating the money needed to upgrade their rental software, providing them a nationwide platform subject to millions of users, and free marketing through our social media and brand ambassadors initiatives.

What problem does this idea/product solve or what market need does it serve?

Consumers of the demand era are investing too much time in the simple task of renting out sporting equipment, while rental shops have difficulty connecting to a larger audience. Shops still rely too heavily on outdated marketing tactics (posters, flyers, a-frames), lack social media presence, and fail to adopt more advanced rental softwares or an online payment method. Consumers are especially unsatisfied with the downgraded sense of technology by having to call up shops to discover rental information, and desire a platform that will compare price, locality, and availability in a singular place. The above are causing shops to lose out on consumers, and are struggling to increase their return on investment and turnover their underutilized equipment quickly enough. Since than 75% are unwilling to upfront the money to hire an IT developer to upgrade their rental software or enhance their marketing tactics, the solution is to provide a sports rental equipment agency platform that acts as a marketing tool for shops, while providing consumers a streamlined rental software to find all recreational rental equipment.

What attributes will make this idea/product successful? Why do you believe that those features will create success?

We are providing a rental experience that is individualized to every consumer’s needs. The mMajority of millennials place high value on sites websites such as Expedia and Kayak because of the research barriers these platforms break down. Our platform will harness a networking effect that builds a sense of community unification through customer feedback and rental shops comments. Allowing shops to reply to comments delivers a personalized experience and enhance the customer’s journey every step of the way. We are the next platform that will help service providers convey their uniqueness, while fostering millennials the rental shops that will bring them unmatchable experiences.

Explain how you (your team) will execute to make this idea/product successful? What gives you (your team) an advantage over others already in the market or new to this market?

The ideation comes from one founder's background in the professional sporting industry where she complied over four years of sports market and rental processing research through years of interning. She understands core of their target market and presents an elite network of sporting agents, sports media founders, and rental shop owners, with her co-founder's professional programming background. Together, they will develop a visually appealing platform with a dependable and scalable search engine that will seed its growth through their sports connections. Along with our streamlined processing system, we understand the need for a networking effect within a platform and will implement reviews and feedback options for shops to comment back. This builds a sense of community unification and delivers a personalized/tailored experience to enhance the customer's rental journey every step of the way. As well, there is n direct competition identifying itself as the one-stop-shop of all rental equipment. Other competitors identify themselves as the one-stop-shop for 'winter gear' (seasonal gear) or for regional locations like Tahoe, Whistler, Mammoth, etc.
