Abstract

Izyshop is Mozambique´s online supermarket that connects smallholders farmers to consumer markets offering same-day home delivery.

In spite more than 500 million smallholder farmers relying on agriculture to survive, they struggle to have access to markets, having to walk long distances or relying on several layers of middle-man. Izyshop provide´s them a platform accessible via mobile devices that helps them access consumers, while offering same-day home delivery services.

Who is your customer?

Urban young people (ages 25 to 40), with internet access and a household combine income of 30,000 Mt (500 USD) or more. Market studies point to around 300,000 users who account for 200M USD anual sales.

What problem does this idea/product solve or what market need does it serve?

Urban lifestyle demand for convenient retail solutions, particularly groceries shop. Also, small and medium farmers and local producers cannot have access to the bigger supermarket chain and trough our online platform they can expand their market share and grow.

What attributes will make this idea/product successful? Why do you believe that those features will create success?

Izyshop is the first fully integrated back-end online platform in Mozambique, being the first mover in a market where internet access and purchasing power is growing substantially. Our skilled team allow us to integrate our operations from the online platform to the delivery process, allowing us to be more efficient which translates into lower costs and high profits that are reinvested in offering the best online customer experience and growth of the business. By providing a link between local farmers and producers, we contribute to the growth of the agricultural sector in Mozambique while offering our customers the freshest and organic products available, providing greater customer value.

Explain how you (your team) will execute to make this idea/product successful? What gives you (your team) an advantage over others already in the market or new to this market?

Izyshop is the first online supermarket in Mozambique and we are first movers in a continuously growing market. Our team has the best and most capable resources available. Izyshop was fully developed in house, which allow us to continuously improving the customer experience without additional outside investment. During the last 10 months we have gained extensive knowledge of the market, allowing us to design and implement a better service to our customers.
