Make a Change World / Media company

Abstract

Make A Change World is a media company and creative agency that is on a mission to do good by creating 100% original digital videos.

We believe in the power of storytelling and effective online videos as a source of inspiration. Our platform exists to share stories of change-makers from around the world via 1-3min videos to raise awareness for causes we care about. Our hope is to encourage our viewers to make small changes towards living a more sustainable life.

This summer, we kayaked down the most polluted river in the world, the Citarum River, on plastic bottle kayaks. Our goal was to raise awareness of the dangers of plastic pollution. After watching our videos, the Indonesian Ministry of the Environment declared an emergency response plan to clean-up the river.

For our next project, #HauntedWaterwaysOfNYC, we will be going down two of America's most polluted waterways on Standup Paddle Boards to raise awareness on the state of these two rivers.

Who is your customer?

The aim of the Make a Change World is to create video series that focus on bringing positive international light to social issues we care about. Our videos in the past have reached millions through social media. Our goal is to convince our viewers to start to make small changed towards living a more sustainable life. For our most recent project, #PlasticBottleCitarum, my brother Gary and I, kayaked down one of the most polluted rivers in the world, the Citarum River, located in Indonesia, on two plastic-bottle kayaks. After posting our video on our platform, we managed to reach the Indonesian Ministry of the Environment and when meeting with them, they said in front of the camera that after watching our video they would create a two-year plan to clean up the Citarum river. Our goal is to influence governments and citizens alike to live more sustainably.

What problem does this idea/product solve or what market need does it serve?

With threats of a largely diminished 2018 EPA budget proposed by the Trump administration, we want to bring our projects to America. As a student in Pennsylvania, we have decided to descend two of America's most polluted waterways on Standup Paddle Board. Local residents are skeptical whether or not the Gowanus Canal and the Newtown Creek will get cleaned up. The aim of this expedition and the video series will focus on bringing positive international light to ensure that the EPA fully commits to their 10 year clean up plan and that both the Gowanus Canal and the Newtown Creek will relive into healthier waterways for generations to come.

What attributes will make this idea/product successful? Why do you believe that those features will create success?

We are predicting that our 8-12 videos will be viewed by over 5 million people, both nationally and internationally. Since we started Make a Change World, our videos have been viewed by over 150 million people through re-shares on social media. We are confident that this video series will have an impact on Americans around New York and also boost our American audience.

Explain how you (your team) will execute to make this idea/product successful? What gives you (your team) an advantage over others already in the market or new to this market?

Although Make a Change World is entirely run by my brother Gary and I, we have had great success with the 50 videos on our platform. We are one of the first sustainable media outlets and we have grown relatively quickly since we started 6 months ago. Our next expedition in New York will be the very first filmed expedition down both waterways on standup-paddle boards, and never before has this problem reached international media coverage.
