Who is your customer?

Our customers are: - Pregnant women and their partners in Myanmar - Parents and children in Myanmar

What problem does this idea/product solve or what market need does it serve?

Myanmar has the worst maternal and child mortality rates in the region. It is ranked second to last in WHO health indicators. It has very high rates of malaria, dengue, TB, HIV, and bacteria-related diseases. Per capita income is only about $1,000. Despite this, smartphone penetration and use is growing rapidly in Myanmar. About 50% of the population has telco network access and about 70-80% of that population uses smartphones. The literacy rate is high at 93% (World Bank).

What attributes will make this idea/product successful? Why do you believe that those features will create success?

With our maymay app, users, whether rural or urban, whether rich or poor or in the middle, instantly have access to quality health information with regard to maternal and child health, the ability to have teleconsultations with 10,000 Myanmar doctors, and the ability to buy low cost, high quality health products delivered to their door by rural sales agents. All in the local Myanmar language. We believe these features will create success due to the high smartphone usage rate in Myanmar. Everyone using our app will suddenly have a more level playing field with which to access quality health products and services. And that's a good thing for the people of Myanmar.

Explain how you (your team) will execute to make this idea/product successful? What gives you (your team) an advantage over others already in the market or new to this market?

Koe Koe Tech was founded by two cousins, a Myanmar-American former corporate lawyer and a Myanmar national doctor and computer scientist. We have 15 employees, all locals, 10 of whom are developers, a designer, and 4 business-side staff. 50% of our employees are women and we have employees from many religious and ethnic backgrounds. We have won the Echoing Green, Cordes, Unreasonable Institute, and GSBI Fellowships. We believe we have an advantage over others because we all have an ethnic connection to Myanmar, plus we blend local understanding with international knowledge. Through our fellowships, we have access to sophisticated, experienced mentors from Silicon Valley, MedTech, with experience operating in challenging developing country environments.
