Hello Tractor

Abstract

Hello Tractor’s technology makes it easy and profitable for tractor owners to (1) monetize tractors as business assets and (2) connect with customers in need of tractor services. Our low-cost monitoring device, when placed on a tractor, provides the owner with powerful apps and analytics tools to ensure tractors are both profitable and properly maintained. To ensure tractor owners are operating their machines at an optimal level, our tech also connects them with networks of farmers in need of tractor services. To boost the supply of tractors in the market, we support banks with dashboards to support tractor financing and dealers/technicians with data to help guide their spare-part supply chain management decisions and maintenance delivery.

Who is your customer?

Hello Tractor sells its products to tractor owners who pay for the device and annual service fee. We scale our solution through partners who include tractor dealers, tractor manufacturers, and tractor fleet owners. We also offer our solution to banks financing tractors.

What problem does this idea/product solve or what market need does it serve?

There are hundreds of millions of smallholder farmers across Africa who face significant labor constraints, forcing them to plant late and under-cultivate their land. These farmers need tractors but can’t afford to own their own. However, these farmers can pay for tractor services. These services are a fraction of manual labor cost and 40x more efficient. This forms the basis of Hello Tractors offering in the market. A technology solution that ensures tractors are utilized at an optimal level by connecting the tractor owners to farmers in need of services, banks financing tractors and dealers providing after-sales support and maintenance.

What attributes will make this idea/product successful? Why do you believe that those features will create success?

Our technology makes it profitable for the 500 million global smallholder farmers to receive tractor services in a commercially sustainable and scalable way. We are also an important resource for tractor manufacturers to sell more of their products in regions defined by smallholder farming. These farmers can often time pay for tractor services but can't afford to own their own tractor.

Explain how you (your team) will execute to make this idea/product successful? What gives you (your team) an advantage over others already in the market or new to this market?

The Hello Tractor team is spread across the United States, Nigeria and Kenya. The founder was an advisor to two sitting U.S. presidents on business in Africa and has worked in global finance and agriculture for over a decade. His two co-founders come with deep experience in corporate strategy (DuPont and Nielsen) and global development and management consulting (NDI and Booze Allen). On the Hello Tractor team there is expertise across agriculture, hardware and software engineering, data science, sales, and CRM.
