Shtudy

Abstract

Shtudy is a professional networking company aiming to address the growing skills gap in America. Shtudy’s first product does this by connecting students trying to gain technical experience with local startups to complete projects. This saves time for students looking for projects and connects them with experiential learning opportunities that give them the technical expertise needed to succeed in the job market. This also saves time and money for startups by allowing them to connect with students that are talented but willing to work for less because they value the experience.

Our founders created Shtudy because as college students we recognized how difficult it is for college students to gain significant technical experience for roles because of the contradictory relationship that exists in the hiring process: recruiters prefer technical expertise to be expressed through past internships but students need an internship to gain that experience. Students already often try to solve this problem by working with smaller companies but are limited to the companies they know, do not have time for full internships during the year (or would like to reserve their summers for working at large companies) and cannot effectively showcase their performance to recruiters. Shtudy will then be able to “close the loop” on recruiting by allowing tech companies to evaluate and hire students based on their project performance through the Shtudy platform. In addition, as startup founders, we recognized that startups always have more work to do than the time and resources to do it. By connecting startups needing work with students needing experience, we serve as a sort of Craigslist for startups, optimizing their workforce by giving them a resource that allows them to outsource tasks through small technical projects.

Who is your customer?

College Students Our founders created Shtudy because as college students we recognized how difficult it is for college students to gain significant technical experience for roles because of the contradictory relationship that exists in the hiring process. Recruiters prefer technical expertise to be expressed through past internships but students need an internship to gain that experience. Students already often try to solve this problem by working with smaller companies but are limited to the companies they know, do not have time to complete the full internships that are available and cannot effectively express their experience to recruiters. Startups As startup founders, we recognized that Startups always have more work to do than startups have time or the resources for. Furthermore, contractors that work for extremely early stage companies are often far less skilled than workers at larger companies. Though, workers at larger companies usually start off as students that look to work with early stage companies to gain experience.
