Mathemaniacs

Abstract

Mathemaniacs is a consulting company that designs and implements Corporate Social Investment/ Responsibility sustainable and measurable strategies for corporates; specifically for them to invest in quality STEM (Science Technology Engineering Mathematics) education in rural and disadvantaged schools and communities. This ensures that all children regardless of their background get access to good, quality education and also ensures that corporates invest in sustainable projects, rather then them; for example only painting a school; which in the long run is not sustainable and cannot be measured. Our projects are structured around academic tutoring and facilitation, teacher training and empowerment and building of science and computer labs; this is all dependant on the client (corporate) budget and corporate strategy.

What problem does this idea/product solve or what market need does it serve?

We design and implement sustainable Corporate Social Responsible strategies that ensure that cooperates invest in quality STEM education in rural and disadvantaged schools, with a strong focus on the girl child. This is to ensure that more girls and underprivileged children pursue a career in the STEM industry.

What attributes will make this idea/product successful? Why do you believe that those features will create success?

The STEM industry is one of the fastest growing and diverse industries and so far is very male dominated and lacks people of colour in the industry. Our programmes ensure that more opportunities are available to girls and learners from disadvantaged and rural communities through quality STEM education.

Explain how you (your team) will execute to make this idea/product successful? What gives you (your team) an advantage over others already in the market or new to this market?

Our business concept is different in that the cooperates walk a full journey with the learners in the schools that they choose to invest in. They firstly will start by investing in an academic Mathematics, Science and Technology programmes in high school and they then have the choice to sponsor the top learners through university, with learnership opportunities over the school holidays. Upon graduation the same learners will then come to work for the cooperates as engineers, scientists, IT specialist, etc. This ensures that the learners become economic contributors. It takes one person in a poor family to be educated to break the cycle of poverty. This type of project will ensure that the cooperates can measure the social return on investment.
