Abstract

3Bar Biologics improves yield, profitability, and sustainability for large family farm operations. Our beneficial microbial inoculants will increase crop yield while reducing dependence on chemical fertilizer and pesticides.

Our target is 500+ acre farms in Ohio and adjacent states growing corn, soybeans, and wheat. Our initial inoculant package is 1 gallon, which covers 40 acres and can be easily applied by combining with liquid fertilizer on the planter using conventional equipment.

Our network of strategic distributors includes farmer owned co-ops, retailers, and consultants who directly sell to farmers. The key to our model is a 5-10x ROI for farmers and a higher margin rate for distributors than other products they sell.

We have exclusive license to microbial strains discovered by The Ohio State University. Strains used in 2014 beta were proven to increase yield 5% in University field trials. Our novel microbial packaging device (pat. pending) delivers a breakthrough in freshness and viability for numerous beneficial microbes.

We are currently seeking $250,000 in seed funding to build 2016 inventory and expand size range.

What problem does this idea/product solve or what market need does it serve?

Microbial Inoculants are a rapidly growing segment of agricultural inputs today based on the promise of higher yields with less chemicals, there are no known resistance issues, and products are safer for operators and the environment.

What attributes will make this idea/product successful? Why do you believe that those features will create success?

Our beneficial microbial inoculant system is a breakthrough in freshness and viability for a living product, delivering more consistent yield improvement results because the microbes are well adapted to the target growing region and are delivered from a proprietary disposable bioreactor which delivers the freshest microbial product on the planet.

Explain how you (your team) will execute to make this idea/product successful? What gives you (your team) an advantage over others already in the market or new to this market?

Our beta product is already for sale and we arein a continuous learning loop with over 100 farms. Our partnership with Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center (the largest university ag research center in the country) extends our ability to conduct well controlled field trials in numerous midwest locations. Our team combines extensive commercialization experience with groundbreaking microbial research and discovery.
