Abstract

The digital revolution opens up a whole new world of possibilities. It forces us to rethink clothing, textiles, and the fashion industry as a whole. Can we reconcile the digital world with our lives, our bodies, our senses and even our brains through interactive clothing or smart textiles?

An international award-winning design studio, Jasna Rok is on the cutting edge of fashion & technology, going against the fashion grain (runway, season, real sustainability, …) with its visionary yet pragmatic outlook on the role of fash tech in our daily lives, both for high-end brands and innovative tech companies.

Our team explores and implements the latest research and technology in the field of wearables, sensors, robotics, and electronics, combining these with futuristic haute couture and high-end design.

Because fashion is more than a gadget or a cover for ourselves, fash & tech can become an interactive extension of our inner selves and create a new kind of nonverbal communication using real-time feedback.

We bridge the gap between technological innovation and wearable future fashion.

Who is your customer?

What problem does this idea/product solve or what market need does it serve?

By making a link and studying the relationship between fashion and technology, we find solutions for daily items such as : big data en data visualization, durability, self- reflection, epilepsy, concentration disorder,… Through the cooperation with research centers (fe. CMST, IMEC, Nokia Bell labs,…) and universities (KU Leuven, prof. Koen Kas , University of Ghent, …) We bring the research to the people by means of fashion. We use fashion as a follicle to show what technology can do today and in the future, how clothing can give real-time feedback to the wearer by means of sensors. The main goal is to create awareness and a learning or training system with it, which fashion never has been before. For example “Fashion On Brainwaves”(FOB), was worldwide the first brain interface fashion collection (2015), which is exploring the connection between fashion and brain technology (EEG). The silhouettes are a primitive prototype to expose the procedures of the brain and how emotions can be presented in a fashion design. This morphing fashion is a second skin (of the brain) and a way to investigate the new aesthetics and beauty ideals (an extension of cosmetic surgery) applied to fashion and self-expressions, which could lead to a new way of communicating.

What attributes will make this idea/product successful? Why do you believe that those features will create success?

The next step in the Future of Fashion is not only expression as shown here,in the FOB collection, but real (artificial) intelligent garments. Cells in a neural network, communicate with each other and react together on the meaning of a trigger or stimulus from the environment by discovering patterns and order. The formation of neural networks in fashion design will be THE NEW BRAINS OF THE FUTURE! The garments become a living organism on its own, as an extension of our body and start a new way of communication in human society by reshaping it and reacting to our feelings. We found a new way to express ourselves. We do not only think about interactive fashion and smart textiles, but also the way of showcasing this new “Fashtech” projects. We go against the runway shows and bring our projects alive in four dimensions: For example FOB: physical (the collections pieces themselves real time connected to the brains of the models), digital (the bainwaves-data and Fashion Films), virtual (a virtual reality experience of the total collection) and in augmented (by interactive holograms)…

Explain how you (your team) will execute to make this idea/product successful? What gives you (your team) an advantage over others already in the market or new to this market?

We bridge the gap between technological innovation and wearable fashion. Jasna Rok features “FashTech” on two levels: at one side research and development of high tech and innovative fashion wearable statements (prototypes) and at the other side futuristic but yet wearable today solutions that are ready for the market. Jasna Roks FashTech for the future: Conceptualization, research, engineering, development and Prototyping Jasna Rok is creating a platform of international 'high-level' partners (fashion and technology brands and academic partners) to make new technology visible and feature how it will be used for daily lives in the future.
