What problem does this idea/product solve or what market need does it serve?

Enrichment and separation of microplastics (<5 mm) including polyethylene, polypropylene, polyvinyl chloride, polyester, polystyrene and polyamide which are harmful to aquatic organisms and human beings, and difficult to be removed and degraded from marine and coastal environments.

What attributes will make this idea/product successful? Why do you believe that those features will create success?

Mocroplastics release chemicals as they degrade and adsorb persistent organic pollutants. There is no known methods for effectively removing microplastics from the environment. Our method, using physical enrichment and separation processes, which doesn’t add new pollutants to the environments or destroy the habitats.

Explain how you (your team) will execute to make this idea/product successful? What gives you (your team) an advantage over others already in the market or new to this market?

We can design special devices according the topography and current of the sites to enrich the microplastics and separate the enriched microplastics suspension with equipments using centrifugal force, buoyancy force or gravity. There is no use of this method for the enrichment and separation of microplastics. Shanghai is a coastal city of China, here are plenty of rivers, streams and coasts for us to practice and improve our methods.
