Additional Questions

Who is your customer?

Our initial customers are high school and middle school students from underrepresented backgrounds. Our workshops enrich students by providing interpersonal development, creative expression, movement, and cultural exposure by completing reflective exercises that are done individually as well as within a group context.

What problem does this idea/product solve or what market need does it serve?

The problem is that there are not equal opportunities or expressive arts curriculums in communities that inhabit disenfranchised, low income youth. We are bridging this gap and creating equal opportunities for youth by making them competitive in artistic fields through increased confidence in self expression, networking, interpersonal development, willingness and courage to take risks, which gives them tools to be successful both inside and outside of the classroom. We are also increasing exposure to different cultures, specifically Brazilian culture though capoeria segments in our workshops which heightens their awareness and expands their respect for cultures outside of their own.

What attributes will make this idea/product successful? Why do you believe that those features will create success?

While there are several non-profits doing amazing work in the community, our deep passion to empower youth not just through written workshops but also through incorporating cultural movements such as capoeira, is something that sets us apart from others. We noticed a gap in the nonprofit world, and are devoted to making a positive impact on society through poetry and capoeira. There aren't any other organizations that are devoted to equipping students with unique creative tools such as the Afro-brazilian martial art of capoeira, and finding parallels in poetry in order to empower them to have sustainable self change.

Explain how you (your team) will execute to make this idea/product successful? What gives you (your team) an advantage over others already in the market or new to this market?

Our initial customers are high school and middle school students from underrepresented backgrounds. Our workshops enrich students by providing interpersonal development, creative expression, movement, and cultural exposure by completing reflective exercises that are done individually as well as within a group context. We will reach out to school administration, and utilize our existing relationships on our board to conduct workshops and speaking engagements. We plan to do outreach through existing organizations on campus such as the CBCSA, Black Alumni Association, Latino Student association, along with outside resources such as the International Society of Black Latinos, and Millennium Momentum Foundation. We also will utilize our network and organization affiliations on campus, and look into cross programming in order to spread the word about the movement, to supplement our social media campaign as well. This includes platforms such as Facebook, instagram, youtube, twitter.
