Drones for Mechanised Farming

Abstract

Deploying drone technology onto farms, Nigeria and its continent may be able to reach its food production capacity by leapfrogging its agricultural industry into the 21st century without making a mess of its environment. Deploying affordable agro-drone technology in the fields for dispersal of safer aerial agrochemicals at clear distances from humans in sight eliminates the threat of exposure to occupational toxicity. The application is also done in more controlled quantities only at portions of the farm identified in need of the treatment as opposed to the current process of spraying entire farms unnecessarily.

What problem does this idea/product solve or what market need does it serve?

Fifteen times faster than tractors, its closest competitor, our agro-drone technology is a cost-effective way to spray for pests and diseases, manage crops by collecting data (for agronomist and/ farm manager) to evaluate and even check for signs of drought, invasive species in grasslands and crops or determining the required improvements in field drainage. The drones also provide the most efficient means of spraying crops with fertilisers. Far more effective than any other means in existence today, the drones can assist both the smallholder and large corporate farms with inexpensive means of developing and improving on their crop yield estimates.

What attributes will make this idea/product successful? Why do you believe that those features will create success?

1). It is a fraction in cost to today's closest competitor - farm tractors 2). It is more precise in its dispersal that waste and over-exposure of the plants and the environment to the agro-chemicals is reduce tremendously 3). Elimination of reports of Occupational toxicity due to the unmanned nature of the service 4). Farmers have a much more confident idea of their crop yield long before harvest placing them in better position to negotiate pricing without the desperation to see due to storage losses

We believe by democratising innovative technologies such as commercial drone application in the unglamorous staple sector of agriculture, we can help leapfrog this country’s farming into the 21st century. Pioneering this through a turn-key franchise model adopted from the aviation industry, we are poised to own the largest fleet of aircrafts (unmanned) with shared risk with many other entrepreneurs but without the overhead costs.
