Drinkwell is tackling the largest mass poisoning in human history - the arsenic and fluoride water crisis - affecting over 200 million people in India and Bangladesh alone. Studies from Yale and Columbia find 1 in 20 deaths occurring due to arsenic poisoning in Bangladesh, resulting in 45,000 annual deaths. UNICEF anticipates a $13.1 billion loss in GDP due to the arsenic crisis over the next 20 years.

What attributes will make this idea/product successful? Why do you believe that those features will create success?

Drinkwell's patented resin technology that removes arsenic, fluoride, iron, and other contaminants from groundwater has been sold for use across over 230 systems impacting over 250,000 people in low-income communities. Drinkwell has a Operation and Maintenance contract for 41 systems reaching over 55,000 people in rural India and Bangladesh. Through this pilot project, Drinkwell hopes to replicate its success in the rural market in urban Dhaka by setting up 160 taps on at least 80 pumps (excluding match funding) that will reach 216,000 people (600 households per pump times 4.5 members per household).

Drinkwell's award-winning team has delivered over 1 million liters of resins to over 200 systems across India, Bangladesh, Laos, Cambodia, and Nepal giving over 250,000 people safe water by partnering with organizations such as Wateraid, USAID, Dhaka Ahsania Mission, GIZ, and Dhaka WASA in Bangladesh and the India Department of Science & Technology, Tata Trusts. Beginning in March 2015, Drinkwell began offering water atms with RFID-enabled payment facilities starting with 2 Water ATM-enabled pilot systems (1 in Bihar, India and another in Manikganj, Bangladesh in March 2015) and now with a dozen organizations using the ATM solution across India and Bangladesh with leading organizations such as Tata Trusts and India Department of Science & Technology. Learning of Drinkwell's success via CEO Minhaj Chowdhury being named a 2016 Forbes 30 Under 30 Social Entrepreneur, Dhaka WASA approached Drinkwell to bring its ATM-enabled system to Dhaka with a pilot of 10 systems by June 2017 with onsite caretakers due to poor initial experiences with ATM manufacturers. Execution excellence by Drinkwell is now to the point where Dhaka WASA would like to pilot the ability to have an mobile money-based system eliminating any cash transactions at the site for scale-up via debt financing.
