Abstract

The business is a social venture/startup aimed to address water diseases that can be mitigated by vector control in tropical and developing countries. By introducing a modular solar aerator that can reduce potential for breeding of mosquitoes and other vector-borne disease carrier in communities, there is a reduced need for chemical fogging and reduced potential for water-borne diseases and outbreaks.

Who is your customer?

Urban and rural communities in tropic/archipelagic countries that live near coasts or bays which are susceptible to water pollution, flooding and uncontrolled water use.Most promising users and customers would be rural communities in developing countries in Asia and South America.

What problem does this idea/product solve or what market need does it serve?

-Vector disease breading (such as dengue and malaria) that is caused by stagnant water and water misuse in local dense communities. -Prevalent practice of chemical fogging in order to reduce mosquito breeding, which is costly and can be harmful to the environment and residents

What attributes will make this idea/product successful? Why do you believe that those features will create success?

There is a huge potential in the market because no other viable solutions are being introduced. The cost for current methods of vector control is upward to P900 through fogging and is not commercially viable to be purchased by local residents. In comparison, the introduction of a low-maintenance solar-powered device which causes turbulence in the water is a simple solution, that may cause less than P100. Additionally, the device tackles on a problem that is widespread (not only applicable to address local issues) but can be scaled to bigger and more urban use. The device is also adaptable, which means that there's a flexibility with how it can be used and how it can mounted to address specific local needs (ie whether it should be mounted on surfaces for aeration or left to float on the water)

Explain how you (your team) will execute to make this idea/product successful? What gives you (your team) an advantage over others already in the market or new to this market?

There is a clear goal on the completion of the product (which is scheduled for December 2017), including the testing of the product in local communities (May of 2018). Additionally, there are contacts already established within target testing communities (Mandaue, Cebu City, Philippines) that can facilitate product testing and the determination of product specifications and capability in the field.
