Caravan: Heritage Tourism

Abstract

The idea is, many people travel different parts of the country but they mostly visit different sightseeing places but there are no personalized services, Caravan is into curated heritage walks, food walks, community neighborhood walks and craft walks. It offers different kinds of walks and tours covering different interests of travelers. It is based in Ahmedabad and has been in this business for the last 4 years. It is known for its customized tours and walks. As Ahmedabad is recently declared as world heritage city by UNESCO, it will attract many travelers from the country and across the world. Though Ahmedabad emerges as a tourism destination, you hardly find good, craft based souvenirs to buy. Caravan is also into developing craft based souvenirs of Ahmedabad and later for other cities. Caravan is collaborating with Breakaways and other travel companies in Delhi, Jaipur, and Mumbai for reaching more travelers. It has been catering around 2000 local and 500 foreign travelers every year. It is a very early stage start up but will be growing this year with the expansion of verticals and new teams working for it.

What problem does this idea/product solve or what market need does it serve?

Many travelers don't like to do sight seeing but like to explore unexplored places and wanted to see the city and touristic places with the eyes of locals. They wanted to have a complete experience when they visit any place, this experience includes not only monuments or historical places but their history, their stories, communities living around these places, food, culture, craft and art of that place. Different travelers have different interest, and they don't like to be part of tours and walks which are very general in nature, so they want customized tours and walks based on their interests, not many companies are focusing on this. Many tourists visit Ahmedabad every year but you can't find souvenirs on Ahmedabad, they like to buy local souvenirs but they don't have options.

What attributes will make this idea/product successful? Why do you believe that those features will create success?

High level of customization and personalization, focus is on how to make experience memorable, through organizing breakfast or dinners at the famous touristic destinations to trying local craft and art working with artisans to spend time with different communities and understand their culture, food, and festivals Have a range of souvenirs and merchandise on Ahmedabad will also add value to traveling experiences of the travelers visiting the city. they like to remember their time in the city or give gifts to their family and friends.

Explain how you (your team) will execute to make this idea/product successful? What gives you (your team) an advantage over others already in the market or new to this market?

In my team, I have two design experts studied from CEPT university and they have a background of architecture and craft & art. They are going to develop souvenirs and also are doing craft and architecture walks. I have been doing food and heritage walks and have tie ups with many agencies and organizations to give a complete experience. I take care of business development, collaborations, finances and overall strategies. One more team member is an expert in heritage management, she is helping me developing different walks and tours and manage logistics. We have two volunteers coming from needy families they are also conducting walks and tours for us. Unlike others who are already in the market, they don't have a team, mostly done by individuals and they don't have any clarity of how they want to take their business to the next level and how to increase the scale. Because of a strong team from diverse background will give us edge over competitors
