Language Amigo

Abstract

Online platform that uses video calls to connect language “Learners,” who want to practice conversational Spanish, with native speaking “Amigos,” who wish to gain flexible income opportunities. Amigos are talented low and middle income youth in Latin America who are trained and certified to become “Amigos.” Learners can use our platform as an educational and networking service to practice their conversational Spanish in a convenient, flexible way. In addition, Learners and Amigos from different cultures and socioeconomic backgrounds will be able to interact and see the world from the perspectives of those they may never otherwise meet.

Language Amigo is offered to Universities, Schools and Companies, that already teach Spanish, to integrate this tool as part of their current Spanish classes to improve the learning experience, fluency, and cultural awareness of their students.

Who is your customer?

universities, schools, exchange programmes, and companies that already offer Spanish courses and want enhance the experience, fluency, and cultural awareness of their students.

What problem does this idea/product solve or what market need does it serve?

We solve a social problem through a market opportunity. In one part of the world, there are more than 104M Latin American young people (15 to 29 years old) struggling financially, who are forced to choose between work and education. We call them ‘Amigos’, and they are looking for flexible economic opportunities. In another part of the world, there are more than 21M people learning Spanish. However, they rarely ever achieve fluency because they lack opportunities to practice their conversational skills with native speakers. We call them ‘Learners’.

What attributes will make this idea/product successful? Why do you believe that those features will create success?

We are offering to language learners the opportunity to put into practice their foreign language knowledge and have real world conversations with real and friendly people, Amigos. We believe that the main objective to learn a language is to be able to connect with people from another country, culture, and background. Through Language Amigo, you can do that. Our sources of competitive advantage are: - Amigos: Latin talented youth who are trained and certified. They aren’t robots nor teachers. - Cultural exchange: We connect people from different countries and socioeconomic backgrounds. - Singular focus: Language Amigo is not a language exchange platform like most competitors are. - Customization: Offered to our institutional customers to enhance their current curriculum. - Social Impact: Unlike competitors, Language Amigo provides a flexible source of income for Amigos.

Explain how you (your team) will execute to make this idea/product successful? What gives you (your team) an advantage over others already in the market or new to this market?

We have strong connections with the social problem, we have experience it first hand, thus we share the passion to address this issue. In addition, we have the connections to build the networks in both sides: 1) the market opportunity side, through international universities connections; 2) the supply side, through Latin American partners.
