MagikMe playground for all

Abstract

MagikMe Ltd, founded in 2014 by parents raising disabled children designs and sells special playground equipment on which able-bodied and disabled children can play together, the latter without using wheelchairs. The mission of MagikMe is to enable early childhood integration of the disabled and to shape the attitude of the majority towards the disabled, thus facilitating dialog and cooperation.

The MagikMe Team had a personally experience about their disabled and non-disabled children not being able to play together which resulted in the isolation of their families from the playground as a very important place for socializing.

At best, today’s playgrounds are only accessible by wheelchair. This means that those kids who are not old or strong enough to use the wheelchair, to control the wheelchair are left out from the playground are left out from the common fun. Also those mentally challenged kids are left out who doesn't have any fear sensation. In Europe the numbers of those kids who are left out from the common fun from the common play because of their ability is over 2 millions.

Equipment that are suitable for disabled children without using a wheelchair simply do not exist. As a result disabled children can not play in the playgrounds, neither alone or together with their peers if they want to enjoy playing without wheelchair. Besides the disabled children, baby siblings with a lot of playing and exercise needs are confined in their pushchairs too as the playgrounds are not designed for them either.

MagikMe has innovated the accessibility - it extends the functionality of present playing devices by its own designed products on which the all the children of the families can play together form the age of 8 months to 8 years, regardless of their abilities. The actual activities are designing a product line, creating production-ready prototypes and selling of the product individually or as part of a complex playground project.
