Red Clover Reader

Abstract

Red Clover Reader is an up and coming social platform that connects Parents with Authors, with the single goal of providing children with affordable access to a world of great eBooks and safe educational entertainment. We save Parents money while helping Authors make more money. How do we do this?

First, Parents access an unlimited amount of quality eBooks, audios and videos for free. Also, they communicate directly with their favorite authors and like-minded parents.

Second, independent Authors find the right audience and share their vision with the world for free. This way, they sell more print books and related items, thanks to increased exposure.

Together, we create community and empower families in raising successful and well-rounded children affordably!

Additional Questions

Who is your customer?

Red Clover Reader serves three groups of customers: Parents and independent Authors. Parents are always looking for the most affordable way of obtaining safe and good quality content with which to educate and entertain their children. Also, parents value the opportunity of connecting with the authors behind their children's favorite books. Second, independent Authors welcome the opportunity to find the right audience easily and affordably, rather than spend a lot of effort and money on online advertisements to no avail. Also, Authors appreciate connecting directly with their readers and getting honest feedback. Evidence from the customer survey we have developed confirms that Parents and indie Authors all long for taking advantage of a platform like Red Clover Reader. Our solution meets the needs of Parents and Authors in a unique way. First, Parents access an unlimited amount of good quality eBooks, audios and videos for free. Also, the platform allows them to communicate directly with their children’s favorite authors and like-minded parents. Additionally, Parents are incentivized to purchase the print version of their children’s favorite books. Furthermore, they buy some small items (e.g., mugs, bookmarks, hats, posters) and services (e.g., art classes) from Authors. Next, Authors find the right audience for their books easily, which allows them to share their vision with the world for free and build an audience of raving fans. By so doing, Authors gain more exposure. Therefore, it becomes easier for them to sell more print books and related items. This allows Authors to keep producing more books and maintain a creative career. Additionally, Authors have a premium channel for sharing the uplifting journeys that led to writing their books as well as for keeping the audience updated on any work in progress.

What problem does this idea/product solve or what market need does it serve?

Parents struggle to find affordable, safe and good quality children’s content on the internet for educational and entertainment purposes. This is the main problem Red Clover Reader addresses. At the same time, independent Authors of children’s books have tremendous difficulties finding the right audience to share their message, to afford expensive PR campaigns and be profitable to sustain a creative career. This is why we came up with the Red Clover Reader concept. The platform connects Parents (and their children) and independent Authors on a self-contained marketplace to create community and empower families in raising successful and well-rounded children affordably.

What attributes will make this idea/product successful? Why do you believe that those features will create success?

Red Clover Reader meets real customer needs. First, Parents are always looking for the most affordable way of finding safe and good quality content with which to educate and entertain their children. Evidence from the customer survey we have developed confirms that Parents and indie Authors long for taking advantage of a platform like Red Clover Reader. Red Clover Reader has multiple differentiation factors that make the platform more appealing to Parents and independent Authors compared to existing solutions. First, we focus on books published by independent Authors. These authors have great stories to tell but most lack the required industry connections and cannot afford the expenses it takes to become nationally recognized best sellers. We view this as an opportunity and seek to help talented upcoming Authors get more exposure and maintain a career. Second, we connect Parents with Authors at a personal level through our online platform. This is a way for families of “inviting their favorite Authors into their homes”. No other platform offers this unique experience currently. Third, we connect Parents with other Parents by allowing them to share their thoughts on any books and related audios and videos. Also, this feature enables Parents to share useful tips that build a sense of community and transforms reading into an uplifting social experience. Forth, we use "crowd curation" to ensure the children's books featured on Red Clover Reader are safe and of good quality. Through ongoing feedback from Parents, we decide which content (e.g., eBooks, audios, videos) to promote or ban. Fifth, we are unique in bringing Parents and Authors all together on the same platform. This makes it possible to use an integrated two-sided freemium model that is also financially sustainable. Sixth, most of our content focuses on teaching children real values (non-cognitive abilities) that can accompany them into adulthood. Such values are self-esteem, imagination, creativity, determination/ persistence and courage. Seven, our front end solution for Parents is absolutely free. This includes safe, quality and worthwhile eBooks, audios and videos. We are considering a premium service where an unlimited amount of high quality educational games and activity sheets will be available for a flat monthly fee.

Explain how you (your team) will execute to make this idea/product successful? What gives you (your team) an advantage over others already in the market or new to this market?

The idea of creating a platform like Red Clover Reader originated from the co-founders' personal experiences as Parents and independent Authors of children's books (e.g., we self-published Goodnight Magic Garden). We are in a unique position to really understand the challenges Parents and independent Authors face on a daily basis. Also, we bring a variety of complementary skills to the team, including communication, leadership, management, organization, planning and entrepreneurial experiences. Above all, we truly believe in the potential of Red Clover Reader to make a big difference in people's lives and we are strongly committed to make this happen as soon as possible. So far, our passion and hardwork have been recognize through the admission of our team into iVenture and NSF i-Corps programs. We hope you join us on this phenomenal journey!
