Additional Questions

Who is your customer?

The catering companies that supply staff restaurants / canteens / cafeterias for corporates are the paying client - they pay an up-front free per unit and a monthly retainer fee per unit for our service, and they provide tastePal as a service to their corporates that they cater for. The corporates then see the value and encourage their employees to use tastePal for the time-saving and the productivity-saving value. The corporate employees are the end-users of the App, and we ensure excellent UX so that they enjoy using tastePal every day to order their meals at lunch time.

What problem does this idea/product solve or what market need does it serve?

The gap we identified is the need for efficient access to food in a workplace. In other aspects of life, we have the option of convenience with multiple delivery apps, but it is quite possible that the high pressure environment of an office needs convenience the most. We seek to solve this problem by providing the option for users to order their meal at the touch of a button, and be notified as soon as it is ready to simulate the experience that we can have in every other aspect of our lives. From a social mission perspective, we seek to solve the hunger problem in South Africa. We believe we can start solving this problem as we grow so that by the time we reach scale, our contributions can grow exponentially to impact the cause we are passionate about through our partnership with FoodForward SA.

What attributes will make this idea/product successful? Why do you believe that those features will create success?

Firstly, there are no direct competitors in our market, and as things stand, the situation is similar locally and internationally. External delivery companies like Orderin, Appetite and UberEats can be considered indirect competitors, but they specialize in restaurant food delivery. Whereas we focus on meal ordering internally within an organization for the organization's staff restaurant. We see benefit in joining forces with successful Point of Sales and working together to provide the ultimate convenient solution for catering company and user alike, and that is what we are looking to do with our partnership with InteliPOS, who have done excellent work in the corporate catering space. We believe that through intelligent commercial partnerships, we will be able to build the credibility we need to close deals with major catering companies in South Africa and abroad - each catering supplies between 5 and 1000 corporates - so through effective partnerships, we can secure the right catering companies as clients, and we will be able to achieve scale at a fast pace. As we achieve scale at a fast pace, we will not only be impact corporate employees in a major way by creating immense time saving, but we will also be able to increase our impact in our social mission of meal contribution.

Explain how you (your team) will execute to make this idea/product successful? What gives you (your team) an advantage over others already in the market or new to this market?

Firstly, we already have a proof of concept of over 5000 transactions and learnings from experiences of tastePal in 6 corporates. So we have learnt from mistakes already, and believe we are now ready to pursue growth. We are currently using the rest of 2018 to focus on a Point of Sale commercial partnership integration strategy as a route to scale. Our first POS partner is InteliPOS, which provides for approximately 400 corporate canteens, and they will onsell tastePal as an add-on to their offering. We will leverage this partnership as a proof of concept to help us form similar partnerships with other major POSes with large existing client bases in SA. We seek to scale nationally and become ubiquitous in South African before expanding into international markets.
