My aim is to create a space for collaboration for artists of different mediums. This will bring more diverse audiences together and form a more inclusive culture for the arts in Salt Lake City.

Additional Questions

Who is your customer?

My customers will be artists and art patrons representing various mediums of expression including music, dance, sculpting, acting, singing, painting, and poetry or spoken word. My primary goal is to broaden this consumer base who can be influenced by the art, by giving them the avenue by which to connect the concept or message being depicted on stage. I also aim to give developing artists and avenue by which to grow and reach their potential as creators.

What problem does this idea/product solve or what market need does it serve?

There are 3 dance companies in the area currently, which primarily have the same kind of consumer: trained dance artists in the community and dance patrons or supporters. While collaborating with a visual artist, Nemo Miller, I found the same theme to be true about the visual arts community - the people that attended her shows were primarily people from the visual arts community only. However, when our collaboration was performed, people from the visual arts community came to the dance show, initiating the mix of two artistic communities. We also had feedback from visual artists and dance artists throughout the process which enhanced the richness and depth of the piece. This typically would not be possible. Therefore, my customer is the greater arts community in Salt Lake City as a whole, including all it's varied components. I want to foster a space in which different types artists can learn from one another and from their specialized mediums in order to discover more possibility within their own crafts.

What attributes will make this idea/product successful? Why do you believe that those features will create success?

My determination and openness to risk inside the creative process is what makes me unique and resilient. Therefore my work seems to carry this same resilient but daring spirit. The information I gathered from survey research made me confident that the general public, dance communities, and communities of other art mediums would be interested to see the collaborations I hope to direct.

Explain how you (your team) will execute to make this idea/product successful? What gives you (your team) an advantage over others already in the market or new to this market?

The team of artists I typically direct work together to make something we individually could never envision or create without one another. We trust one another to create something bigger than ourselves. With this type of trust within colleagues, possibilities present themselves often. Arts communities are very different than other business settings. The amount of vulnerability that goes into creating art requires a different type of commitment and personal investment for each collaborator.
