Learning Boost+

Abstract

Learning Boost+ is a learning community mobile app that aims to empower those students on the verge of dropping out of school or out of a particular course due to heavy course load, time constraint, lack of motivation, and extracurricular involvement. It also educates and exposes college students to a peer-based support system within their geographical location after hours and all on the go. My app allows users to post statuses about courses and assignments they are having difficulties in. As a result, they receive support from college students within the learning community on their respective campuses. The app automatically notifies others within the user’s geographical location after a status is posted. These alert messages would invite the individuals on the receiving end (users within the geographic location) to network and exchange knowledge with the scholar in need of their assistance either through a meeting in person, texting or video calling. All that is required from the other counterparts that see the status is to respond either by liking or disliking the status. If a status is liked by another user, it shows that the individual is credible enough to render their assistance on the subject. On the hand, if a status is disliked, it shows that the individual is not credible enough to render their assistance on the subject.

Mind you, the number of scholars who offers to help on the assignment may vary depending on the geographical location of the user who posted the status. Once the person who posted the status has a good amount of responses from the learning community, they will then be able to gauge the credibility of each respondent who liked the status to see who is the best match. After exchanging text messages, if the assignment requires meeting in person then they can agree to meet at one of the nearby public locations on campus that Learning Boost+ has designated to be a secured location for academic learning. Otherwise, users can text or video call the credible respondents.

With this forum, college students are guaranteed that the app would allow them to expand their horizons, network with like-minded, committed and goal-oriented scholars that will not only challenge each other academically but also offer support to one another. As a result, students would be able to track and see improvement in their academics.

Additional Questions

Who is your customer?

My customers are mainly the universities who want my platform to be installed on their respective campuses.

What problem does this idea/product solve or what market need does it serve?

I was inspired to start this establishment because I’ve observed and listened to many students currently in, or pursuing, STEM majors complain about the difficulty levels of the courses they are taking. Not only do they complain about the difficulty levels, they also complain about not having access to a quality one-on-one tutoring with professors, TA's, and tutors which hinder their learning process. It hurts me deeply knowing that there are a lot of resources on campus to help in the STEM areas, but unfortunately, students can’t access them during open hours due to time constraint and extra-curricular involvement on campus.

What attributes will make this idea/product successful? Why do you believe that those features will create success?

What sets this platform apart from other learning communities is that it helps users pinpoint their academic weaknesses and strengths at an early stage, help set and work towards achieving their academic goals, and allow users to network and exchange knowledge with a study partner after hours within their geographical location that wouldn’t quit on them until the mastery of the content is well established. Not only does this app allow users to unleash the ferocious academic spirit in college students, it also allows college students to network with like-minded and goal-oriented scholars that will challenge each other academically and offer support to one another. Although my competitors may offer a quick match with a study partner, it's not always a substantive match. However, my platform makes it more personalized which gives the user a greater probability of having a compatible match that would help them excel in all of their academic endeavors. My platform rewards users with points everytime they network with a study partner on my platform. There will also be a bi-weekly progress report that every user has to submit in order to let Learning Boost+ know of their shortcomings and accomplishments. From this data, my team and I would use them to figure out how to upgrade our system to ensure that it meets the demands of all students. when the TA's, professors, and tutors are gone for the day, the student can access my platform after hours to find a one-on-one study partner(s). The app also empowers those students on the verge of dropping out of school or out of a particular course due to heavy course load. It also educates and exposes college students to a peer-based support system within their geographical location. My app allows users to post statuses about courses and assignments they are having difficulties in, and it will automatically notify others within the user’s geographical location after a status is posted. These alert messages would invite those individuals on the receiving end to meet with the user asking for a favor and share their knowledge. All that is required from the other counterparts is to click the accept to meet button. With this, college students are expanding their learning community in which they can always rely on while in college.

Explain how you (your team) will execute to make this idea/product successful? What gives you (your team) an advantage over others already in the market or new to this market?

As of right now, I am still searching for a team of app developers within the Computer Science department that have the vision and the ability to push boundaries. When the team is formed, I will adopt the division of labor concept and appoint each team member a task to complete by a certain deadline. At that deadline, all of us will come together to collaborate and update each other on the development status. For me personally, I'm planning on taking a Computer Science summer course at a community college to acquire more knowledge that will improve my coding skills.
