The planet is undergoing unprecedented environmental change that will condemn humanity to extinction if left unchecked. In East Africa alone, drought and conflict over limited natural resources has left the lives of more than 20 million people in the balance. This environmental crisis is deeply rooted in the values, beliefs and attitudes that society holds over nature which has led to building communities with limited awareness of challenges and opportunities of environmental conservation and protection. It has been proven that culture, values, taboos and norms are inherited and transitioned from one generation to another by engaging children at their early childhood development stages through a natural life path. Studies indicates that children that explore experiences associated with care for elements of nature particularly environmental conservation practices and adults who take action on behalf of the environment, recall formative childhood experiences

The current growing environmental threats which require behavior changes responses from generation to generation for the brighter future and safer life on the global, children are becoming important agents of change in environment hence they are 40 % of the world population but there are 100% of the future generation. Advocacy on environmental change is an integral to addressing the global threat, so preparing the young generation to be the voice of our environmental problem and providing education on the environmental conservation can turn Eco-friendly habits into lifelong behaviors. Kids environmental TV is a means to these possibilities. The strategy is to set ENVIRONMENTAL TV STATION that will show, elevate, amplify and magnify kids on environmental sustainability.

Who is your customer?

The targeted customers for the envisioned product are the children aged 5 to 18 years old. This is the critical age group for the transformation of eco-friendly adoptive behavior from generation to generations.

What problem does this idea/product solve or what market need does it serve?

Environmental pollution is an incurable disease. However, it can be prevented. The most activities that pollute the environment are human made (or caused) due to lack of comprehensive/adequate knowledge on the impact of environmental pollution and degradation to both human health and aquatic life. This product is meant to address lack of knowledge and awareness on the environmental conservation and their respective treats on environmental using Kids environmental TV

What attributes will make this idea/product successful? Why do you believe that those features will create success?

The product will be designed in a more appealing context and content package that will attract kids to watch repetitively. The approach is not intending to reinvent the wheel rather will focus on the normal entertaining sessions that suits better to kids. Particularly we are envisioning a product that will bridge entertainment and education (“edutainment”), combining their benefits and strengths. In this manner, the appeal and popularity of entertainment is used to bring about social change to promote well-being at individual and social levels. According to UNICEF, educational television has been proven to encourage school preparedness among preschoolers, to encourage early literacy and to teach specific school curricula effectively. This approach is strongly tied to the field of development communication, which systematically applies processes and strategies of communication to promote social development and change. Thus, we believe this product will be able to deliver environmental friendly messages in an edutainment well packaged Kids TV programs.

Explain how you (your team) will execute to make this idea/product successful? What gives you (your team) an advantage over others already in the market or new to this market?

Television idea is not new innovation in the word that’s makes us not to invent the wheel but it’s the mater play with expertise, The Environmental Kids Tv team has a vast experience in the media industry with strong expertise in the field broadcasting and media communication who have long time experience in that field, well cooked and ready to execute and bring edutainment to kids, Kids represent an important demographic to marketers because in addition to their own purchasing power (which is considerable) they influence their parents’ buying decisions and are the adult consumers of the future. The team has been engaged in the various programs addressing behaviors change in various disciplines such as HIV/AIDS, Malaria, TB and environment. The team has experience in developing, driving and implementing channel marketing activity for selected groups of channel partners. The team has experience of TV channels marketing activities, managing marketing budgets ideally within a channel marketing setting. The team has an understanding of the distribution channels for the industry. The team comprises members who have experience in the project management. In addition, the team has experience in establishing public – private partnership to leverage expertise and resources. The team is capable of establishing business models that will help to sustain the Environmental Kid Tv.
