Abstract

Our goal is to design a dental device that can provide improved visualization of the oral cavity for the dentist, specifically more localized illumination. This device needs to provide accurate visualization of the inside of the oral cavity, improve treatment of patients in dental procedures, and be affordable to general dentists.

What problem does this idea/product solve or what market need does it serve?

The current standard instruments for visualizing the inside of the oral cavity during dental procedures include dental mirrors, microscopes and/or endoscopes. These visualization methods have several issues including not producing enough lighting at the desired location, requiring the dentist to use an external monitor to view the patient’s mouth, or getting in the way of the dentist during his or her work. There is a need for a method to improve visualization of the inside of the mouth during dental procedures.

What attributes will make this idea/product successful? Why do you believe that those features will create success?

It has an etched mirror and LED component that does not obscure the viewing of the dentist.

Explain how you (your team) will execute to make this idea/product successful? What gives you (your team) an advantage over others already in the market or new to this market?

We have a working prototype but need to redesign it for manufacturing.
