Tidy Kiwi Camping

Abstract

We want to create portable, self-contained freedom camping facilities that are powered by biofuel converted from waste. This sustainable solution decreases waste in parks and reduces pressure on local infrastructure and resources, whilst contributing to a sustainable environment in the future that will benefit New Zealand and its tourism industry.

Additional Questions

Who is your customer?

We are targeting freedom campers, aged 16-35, who are from overseas and camping in national parks.

What problem does this idea/product solve or what market need does it serve?

New Zealand is experiencing increasing numbers of freedom campers, and it has been noted that some of them have caused environmental damage and concerns for locals, parks and councils. Without basic facilities, they have left waste, washed laundry in public drains, and increase pressure on locals' limited infrastructure. Our portable, self-contained freedom camping facilities provides freedom campers in parks with cheap facilities, while being powered by biofuel converted from their waste. This reduces pressure on local infrastructure and resources, whilst contributing to a sustainable environment in the future that will benefit New Zealand and its tourism industry.

What attributes will make this idea/product successful? Why do you believe that those features will create success?

In terms of commercial success, charges for using the facilities will be low which directly targets our market; freedom campers who aim to travel as cheaply as possible. In terms of social impact, there is a need recognition for sustainable solutions to freedom camping activities. This is the only environmentally friendly solution that currently exists for addressing freedom camping, which will meet our stakeholders' key needs. This will be a success because it is the only available solution that solves the problem and creates a positive social, environmental and economic impact. The portable recycled shipping containers mean that the solution can be used for large-scale freedom camping in peak seasons, in areas where it is the most prevalent. It is adaptable and convenient. We have several potential customers: freedom campers, DoC and local councils. We are able to establish positive relationships with all stakeholders, and have multiple sources of funding.

Explain how you (your team) will execute to make this idea/product successful? What gives you (your team) an advantage over others already in the market or new to this market?

We will bring in expert knowledge to create a functional product that best addresses the issue we are trying to target. By targeting large-scale freedom camping sites in parks, we are addressing the problem where it is the most significant. Compared to others in the market, we are the only company that has a solution that is environmentally friendly as well as socially impactful. This would attract local councils and parks to work with us.
